The event that Changed My Life

In life, there have not been that many instances that have changed my life, but some have shaped me for the better and have changed the way I do things. Since I was very young, I always knew what was the meaning of happiness for me, I knew what mattered to me and what did not matter to me. However, one lesson that could only be learned from the experience was the importance of my safety and how easily someone can be innocently involved in a dangerous situation. I had to learn this lesson the harsh way a couple of weeks back after just wanting to grab dinner on a Saturday night.

A few weeks ago, we were attending a twenty-people wedding and my boyfriend, sister and I decided to leave early. since we are vegetarians, it is often hard for others to accommodate our dietary preferences, so we often opt to pick up food on our way home. On that night, we were doing just that. We were all getting off the car, and I was the only person coming out from the right side of the car. As I was about to close the car door and with the handle still in my hand, a man started cat-calling me. I asked him to leave me alone, but he continued to do so and started walking extremely fast towards me. I panicked and rushed to the other side to meet the other two people that were with me. As they tried to defend me and repeatedly asked him to leave me alone, he pulled out a gun. At that moment that the three of us froze. By instinct, we started walking back to the car, but he followed us, this time requesting money and now pulling out the gun at my boyfriend for a second time. Somehow, he was able to calm down and put the gun away.

Needless to say, we were thankful we all made it out alive and the police were called by a family that was in their car and even parked next to us to make sure that we were okay. For the longest time, I was in a naive impression that “those” things can happen to every but me, and if it were to happen, I would know how to react, but one is truly never capable of handling such a situation with ease. It made me realize that everyone is vulnerable to danger anywhere, it is not something that happens in the movies, it can happen to anybody.

After making it out safe, it took some time to process what we had just gone through. The truth is that there was a feeling of guilt because if I would have waited for my parents to leave the wedding or just would have cooked at home, we wouldn’t have gone through what we went through. I stopped thinking about myself and started thinking about others, especially my mom and dad, and how they would have felt if something would have happened to us.

Sometimes you have to go through situations in life to realize the important things in life. For me, safety is something that I do not take for granted and is a considerable factor every time I am in a public place because anyone can be put in that situation. I have a better understanding of the importance of safety and how it can impact someone’s life.

professors revision:

Tammy, that wa quite a story and an event. I am sorry. But now you need to turn this into a five paragraph essay to meet the assignment. Try the following. I a numbering the graphs. Just say waht you want in each of the three supporting paragrapohs..
            1. An event that changed my life significantly was being threatened by a robber with a gun. (Topic and point) . A few weeks ago as we were leaving from a wedding, a man started yelling at me in the parking lot.  I asked him to leave me alone, but he started walking extremely fast towards me. I panicked and rushed to the other side to meet the other two people that were with me. As they tried to defend me and repeatedly asked him to leave me alone, he pulled out a gun. At that moment that the three of us froze. By instinct, we started walking back to the car, but he followed us, this time requesting money and now pointing the gun at my boyfriend for a second time. Somehow, he was able to calm down and the guy put put the gun away. (Background)  It made me realize how fleeting life can be, the importance of family and the value of keeping safe. (Plan of developoment)   Then  paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 about the last three things. Or come up with your own words. Write more abut how fleeitng life can be, importance of family and keeping safe.              5. Conclusion: It’s always wise to be aware of where you are and the situation you are in. etc etc.
Do you see the difference. You give three reasons why this was an important event and then have a conclusion. Revise it and I will grade the revision. Just reply or send it as an e-mail.
