Current EventAssignment Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is to increase yourglobal awareness and provide you with the opportunity to apply the conceptsbeing learned in the course. Now that you have studied events and movementsthroughout the history of Christian mission, you will choose a currentevent/news article (no more than 2 weeks old) that relates to a culture/country inthe majority world. As a reminder, majority world is the preferred term for thenon-western countries usually classified as developing countries (countriesin Africa, Asia, South and Central America and the Caribbean). Pleasenote that the United States, Canada, and the UK are not considered majorityworld countries.
Do not choose a random article; select an article thatwill allow you to apply the course material in your analysis and response. 

Current Event Assignment

Your article should come from one of the approved credible news sources included below.  Be sure to check the world pages, not just the headlines page, and choose an article relating to the majority world (non-USA, Canada, UK articles) where you can apply what you are learning in the course.

        Review world news from the week and choosean article that has global significance. Select an article no more than 2 weeksoldfrom the date of submission. The article must be from a majorityworld country. (i.e.: countries in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, andthe Caribbean).
        Your article should come from one of the approvedcredible news sources included in the assignment page. If you would like to usea different source, it must be pre-approved by your instructor prior tosubmission. Be sure to check the world pages, not just the headlinespage.
        Complete the following in a Word document(review template):
a.   Include your name, course number andsection in the top right corner of the document (not in the header).
b.  Include the Article Link:   
c.   Include the Article Title:   
d.  List and answer the following questionsabout the article:
1.      Give a brief description of the eventor the situation along with the historical and political backgroundscontributing to this event.
In this section you should include enoughinformation for the reader to understand what the article is about withoutactually having to read the article. Remember to include the historicaland political background.
2.      Share why this article interests you.
In this section you will briefly explain the reasonthis article appealed to you. 
3.      Briefly discuss the implications ofthis event/story LOCALLY (where the event/situation occurred not where you arelocated) and GLOBALLY.
In this section you need to briefly explain therepercussions of this event in the local community. You will then brieflyexplain the potential or actual influence/effect this event could have in theglobal community. What countries could be impacted or influence by this event?
4.      As believers, how can we respond tothis situation?
In this section you should apply concepts/strategieslearned in the course material to explain how the Church can respond to eventssuch as this in order to further its mission of making disciples. 
        Youranswers to the questions should total at least 500 words but no more than 800words.
        Includea word count at the bottom of the assignment. Please note that studentinformation, article title and link, the questions themselves, and footnotes donot count towards your word count.
        Theassignment should be completed according to the current Turabian formattingguidelines and should not include a title page (Times New Roman, 12pt font,double spaced, 1-inch margins).  
        Minimumof one citation from our reading material. Remember to use current Turabianstyle footnotes when citing your source(s).
