Gender and Manifest Destiny Assignment

I need to find a peer reviewed article as well. One article at least, and a book is what needs to be used, its called Manifest Manhood and the Antebellum American Empire by Amy S. Greenburg

Using Amy Greenberg’s book, Manifest Manhood and Antebellum American Empire, at least one article from a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, your text book, and the resources posted in Vancko Hall, construct an argument-based historical essay addressing the questions below. Do not write a summary of the book. You should construct an argumentative, interpretive historical essay, with a thesis statement, using the book and your article to illustrate and defend your argument.

This paper must be 5-7 pages in length, doubled space, 12 point font, with one-inch margins and. Your paper should must also include an abstract and an annotated bibliography which are not part of the minimum page requirement. Papers must also be properly cited, with reference to the Greenberg book and the scholarly article used.

You must use citations (MLA or APA format) when using any material (direct or indirect) from class, the assigned readings, your peer-reviewed article, and the Greenberg book.

This paper is due on Sunday, September 26th at 11:59 PM and must be submitted to both Vancko Hall and Turnitin. Late, incomplete, or papers that are not properly or fully cited will not be accepted and will receive a grade of 0/100. Extensions will not be granted without the prior approval of the instructor.

1. What role did Manifest Destiny play in American territorial expansion during the 19th century. How was Manifest Destiny used to justify and in building support for the Mexican-American War and expansionism in general during the 1840s and 1850s?

2. How did the meaning of Manifest Destiny differ for 19th century men and women? What does the author mean by the phrase “Martial manhood”? How was it used to justify territorial expansion?

3. How was the ideology and rhetoric of Manifest Destiny used to promote and justify American expansionism into Latin America and the Pacific?

4. Do you agree with the author’s arguments on gender and expansionism?
