I Samuel 19:9-10 (ESV)Then a harmful spirit from theLordcame upon Saul, as he sat

I Samuel 19:9-10 (ESV)Then a harmful spirit from theLordcame upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre. And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night. Matthew 8:28-33 (ESV)And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,And behold, theycried out, What have you to do with us,O Son of God? Have you come here to torment usbefore the time? Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged him, saying, If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs. And he said to them,Go.So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to thedemon-possessed men. Sometimes Christians wonder whether psychological disorders are caused by evil spirits or demon possession as they are presented in these passages. In some circles, exorcism still takes place. As Christians, we can have the advantage of working through difficulties using both scriptural concepts and psychological theories. Psychological research has found that many psychological difficulties may result from biological and/or genetic factors rather than psychological factors. This does not mean the client does not manifest psychological difficulties in behavior, thinking, feeling, etc., but unless the biological/genetic difficulty is treated, the client will not experience some sort of permanent relief from the disorder. Once the biological cause is being treated, the skillful Christian counselor can integrate scriptural and psychological concepts to effectively relieve at least some of the pain one is experiencing. Scripture always tops psychology, but God has gifted some people, even though they are not Christians, to explore and find causes for psychological pain. Consult at least two Bible commentaries and summarize how they interpret these and other scriptural passages that refer to demon possession.

How can the working out of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22) in ones life not only help in ones spiritual growth but also ones psychological growth?
