Final Paper – Applying What You Have Learned
The purpose of this paper is to:
Demonstrate how, using what you have learned, you have taken action and been in communication to resolve what did not work, to produce value, such as to: bring workability, restore relationship, increase productivity, innovate, be hired for a job, make a difference for yourself and/or someone else.
Describe what your greatest learning is from the class. This is meant to be an open-ended question that does not have to be limited to the one most important learning but is meant free you to recount what was meaningful for you, what had an impact on you and your life, what did you learn about yourself—however, you would like to answer this question is your choice.
What questions are you left with? What more would you have liked the class to include?
Guideline for Final Paper: Final Papers written on Gender in the Workplace without using concepts and skills taught in class will not qualify for a grade higher than C, no matter how well the paper is written.
For your paper, you will write on EITHER topic A1 or A2, and in addition, you will write on topics B and C.
Topic A1 is only for those students with scenarios that are happening NOW, while you have been taking the class.
Topic A2 is for students whose scenarios happened in the past to show how you are applying what you have learned NOW.
Only describe a situation you yourself are actively taking part in resolving the situation, using new skills in understanding/communications. DO NOT describe a situation about other people in which you are not directly involved. If you are coaching someone else through a situation using what you have learned, you can use this as a scenario and report on what you advised and the results produced
Applying What You Have Learned
For your paper, you will write about how you have applied what you have learned in the class since the class began:
A1 if your scenario happened in the present and is ongoing:
You write about how you have taken action on the scenario using what you have learned and the results you and others involved produced.
A2 if your scenario happened in the past:
You write about how you have applied what you learned taking action and being in communication during and since the class.
It can be about something that happened in the class that you want to rectify, set the record straight or make amends for.
It can be about how you have applied Adapt and Adopt:
Describe an insight you had about yourself and a colleague or yourself and a team during or after the course, or back at work, and describe what action YOU have taken as a result of that insight…:
…to adapt the people you work with to work with your different “competencies”
…to adopt other people’s “competencies” or ways of communicating
…to incorporate adapt and adopt, or in some way “mining the gold” of differences in your team or organization
What difference is it making?
Topic B. Reflect on all the components in the course and identify aspects that resonated in your work and life. What was your greatest learning from the course? What have you brought and what do you plan to bring into your work, workplace, and/or life as a result of this course?
Topic C. What questions are you left with? What would you like more information on, discussion of, coaching on, in the course over full class learning?
