Individual Presentation Prompt
Hello!
Recently I helped my organization, Anniston Orthopedics, navigate the implementation of an EHR/PM (Electronic Health Records/Practice Management) Solution. Now, less than three years later, my software vendor is pushing their clients to move into the “cloud” rather than having to constantly update their networks. I am concerned about the latency of receiving information when it is housed 50-600 miles away rather than on a server around the corner.
I would like for you to use the web to research latency in the cloud environment. This issue is exclusive to healthcare. Anyone who intends to use the cloud to provide either a thin client environment (everything is hosted in the cloud) as opposed to a thick client (everything running locally on the client computer) will run into this problem. Each situation is unique depending on the complexity of the program being hosted, the number of users online simultaneously, and the need for immediate information access.
After you find some good information, make some suggested considerations for me. It could be that you recommend a certain type of network connection, certain geographic distances between providers, thin/thick clients, security, or some combination of all of these.
Thank you in advance for your research and recommendations on this project.
