informal vs formal organizational structure

Some people argue that the informal organizational structure has a greater productivity impact in a typical organization over the formal organizational structure. Additionally, there are those who feel that one organizational structure is better oriented for dealing with the diverse multigenerational workforce as it exists today and trends forward.  

 Present your arguments for or against the position that leaders are better able to address the collaborative and communication challenges of the multigenerational workforce by using one or the other, or both, type of organizational structure.  
 In your response, consider the pros and cons of formal and informal organizational structures as well as the characteristics of each generation. Keep in mind that the generational differences impact communications differently in the workplace. 
 Also, make sure to identify and differentiate among the four to five generations in your response.
