Law Enforcement Leadership Qualities

FINAL PAPER: HLS 301 Police and Homeland Security Leadership
Successful completion of this course requires you to submit a Research Paper. (40% of final grade)
Your paper must focus on any one of the three topics below:
Option #1.       You may do a graduate-level assessment of the challenges faced by police/ homeland security supervisors regarding any single issue, such as (but not limited to):
       challenges faced by female supervisors/leaders
       challenges faced by LBGTQ supervisors/leaders
       Challenges in leading/supervising millennials
       Any other challenge, as long as it directly relates to police/HLS supervision or leadership
 
Option #2         You may do a graduate-level assessment of leadership styles (autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, situational, transformational). Provide an explanation of the benefits and limitations of each style. You can include examples of famous leaders who used each style.
Option #3        You may do a graduate-level assessment of the leadership qualities of an accomplished law enforcement, homeland security, or military leader. The paper must focus on their leadership attributes and accomplishments. (Eliminate or limit any information that is not related to your subjects leadership. Information on where they were born, went to grammar school, or other such information wont count towards your page total unless it directly relates to their leadership attributes.)
Rules
       The paper must be at least 8, but no more than 10 pages, double spaced, 1-inch margins. 
       The title page and reference section does not count to your page total, and there is no need for an abstract or a table of contents.
       The paper must contain a minimum of 6 scholarly peer-reviewed sources.
       This assignment will be submitted in Turnitin. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

Due Dates
       You must submit a paragraph telling me which topic you have chosen before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14.
       Any papers submitted between before midnight on November 19 will return them to you if some revision is needed to improve your grade. Papers submitted after November 19 will be graded as submitted.
       The final deadline for submission is 11 p.m. Friday December 03. Any papers submitted after that date will lose points on the paper.
