Descriptive Measures
1. Compare and contrast specific quantitative measures of center and variability.

Discuss how the sample mean, median, and mode uniquely identify the center of a data set. Provide a simple mathematical example for EACH measure to substantiate your claims. Show all work.
Discuss how the sample range and standard deviation of uniquely identify the variability within a data set. Provide a simple mathematical example for EACH measure to substantiate your claims. Show all work.

NOTE 1: Use mathematics examples containing a small number of values involving whole number values (e.g., 3, 5, 7, 9, 11). These examples do not have to be cast within the context of a real-world application. I am looking for your basic understanding of how to numerically determine and distinguish between these different quantitative measures of center and variability. Keep it very simple!
NOTE 2: Your response to this part must be in your own words. I want more than just telling me how to calculate these measures. Posting quotes or copy/pasted definitions from outside sources does not demonstrate to me that you understand these concepts. I want to hear your “voice” within your response to this part where you use your mathematics examples to substantiate your claims.
NOTE 3: Use the mathematics equation editor provided within this discussion forum to type up your mathematics example. Click on the option within the palette of options above that looks like the square root of x symbol. This is the mathematics equation editor provided within Canvas discussion boards. Do not refer to responses or work provided within uploaded Word file attachments. Referring to uploaded attachments disrupts the flow of an online discussion.
